Frequently Asked Questions About the Crystal Lake Food Drive
Have questions about donating to our annual food drive? Find answers below about drop-off locations, appointment donations, and how your contribution helps the Crystal Lake Food Pantry serve our community.
Q1. What items can I donate to the Crystal Lake Food Drive?
We're accepting all non-perishable food items, with particular need for protein sources (canned tuna, chicken, beans), pasta, rice, and canned vegetables. Please ensure all donations are unexpired and in their original packaging. Personal care items like soap, shampoo / conditioner, and deodorant are also greatly appreciated as these essentials aren't covered by food assistance programs.
Q2. When and where can I drop off donations?
You can drop off donations between November 4th and November 24th at our Homestead Comfort office located at 100 West Road, Ellington, CT 06029. Our office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. We've made the donation process quick and convenient with a designated drop-off area in our lobby so you can contribute even during your busiest days.
Q3. Can I have a technician collect my donation?
Yes! If you have a scheduled service appointment with Homestead Comfort between November 4th and 24th, our technicians will be happy to collect your food drive donations directly from your home. Simply have your items ready in a bag or box when our technician arrives, and they'll ensure your donation is delivered to our collection point. This convenient option makes contributing even easier.
Q4. How does the Crystal Lake Food Pantry use donations?
The Crystal Lake Food Pantry distributes donations directly to local families facing food insecurity in our community. Your contributions help provide nutritious meals for children, seniors, and families who might otherwise go without. The pantry serves hundreds of Ellington residents each month, with demand typically increasing during winter months. As a proud supporter for over a decade, we've seen firsthand how these donations make an immediate difference.
Q5. Can I make a financial donation instead?
While we're primarily collecting food items for this drive, financial contributions are also welcome and can be made directly to the Crystal Lake Food Pantry through their website. Financial donations allow the pantry to purchase fresh produce, dairy, and other perishable items that can't be collected during food drives. Every dollar donated helps the pantry provide approximately 3 meals to community members in need.
