Maximizing efficiency and ensuring dependable summer cooling.

The mercury is rising as we approach the start of summer. If your household is relying on outdated and inefficient cooling equipment, your energy bills could skyrocket as well.

The team at Homestead Comfort can help you guarantee a cool, refreshing home environment regardless of your house’s age, layout and current air conditioning setup. Many of the older homes in Tolland, Hartford and Windham Counties lack ductwork, which is necessary for central A/C. But that doesn’t mean these homeowners need to settle for loud, sunlight-blocking window A/C units. We can set you up with an efficient ductless mini-split system.

How are ductless mini-splits set up?

Ductless Mini Splits are tremendously adaptable and relatively simple to install, especially in challenging spaces. They consist of an outdoor unit and one or several indoor air handlers, which are typically mounted on the walls inside your home. The outdoor unit connects to an air handler via a thin conduit that passes through your exterior walls. Multiple air handlers can connect to a single outdoor unit.

In warmer months, the system extracts heat and humidity from your home and transfers it outside. It’s an efficient cooling system, especially because each indoor air handler can function independently. This allows for “zoned cooling.” You can reduce the A/C use in parts of your home and save money in the process!

What factors determine the size of your ductless A/C?

When you work with an experienced, professional HVAC team like Homestead Comfort, we can determine the ideal number of air handler “heads” for your home’s cooling needs. As a general rule, your ductless system will need 5,000 Btu of cooling capacity for every 100 square feet of space. A large, open-concept living space will likely require a higher-Btu air handler than a small bedroom or home office.

The layout of your home also comes into play. We’ll look at the configuration of your rooms and the height of your ceilings and determine the most effective way to cool the most space with the minimum amount of equipment.

Other factors we’ll take into account in sizing your ductless A/C system include:

  • The quality of insulation in your home
  • Your rooms’ exposure to sunlight
  • Which rooms get the most use
  • The cooling preference of the people in your home
